Travelers has a bit of experience in offering car insurance - they were the first to offer it over 140 years ago. Now, Travelers offers a range of coverage plans plus extras to add to your policy, such as rental reimbursement to cover the cost of renting a car while yours is being repaired as well as towing and labor which covers the towing cost of your broken-down car.
I was involved in an auto accident with a travelers insured person on 8-5-09. The accident was the other drivers fault and the other driver fully admitted that to the police department as well as the insurance company. I received a call from the first agent within a couple of hours of the accident and he set up my rental car and got the investigator set up to look at my vehicle.
I received call from the investigator the next day and was told that my vehicle was going to be considered a "total loss". The next call I got was from the "total loss agent", this is where the problems begin. The dollar amount they gave me was what I considered to be low, I told her this and what I had found for avergage prices for my vehicle as well as what NADA showed. I then put together a counter offer letter along with dates and amount of improvements made to the vehicle. This was faxed to them on a Sunday so I left a voice mail for the "total loss agent" letting her know that I had faxed this over to her and to get back with me. I did not get a call back at all on Monday, I did not get a call on Tuesday from her either. I did speak with the first agent on Tuesday and he emailed her and had her contact me. I was told that I needed to fax over receipts for the improvments made to the vehicle. My wife faxed these over and contacted the agent to let her know that they had been faxed, this was on a Thursday. I ended up calling on Friday to follow up and again had to leave a v/m at 10:30 A.M. I did not get a call back! I called again on Monday and she actually answered the phone, she said she did not get the fax! We had also faxed over to another agent info for lost wages, he did get his fax? We faxed over the documentation to her AGAIN, this time she got it. They came back with a new number that we agreed with. I hand delivered the signed title for my vehicle to their office on Wednesday the 19th at 7:30 A.M. and was told that she was going to process the check request as soon as she went back to her desk. I spoke with the other agent regarding lost wages the next day at 4:30 P.M. and was told the he was going to process the request for my check for lost wages. I got that check in the mail on Moday the 24th, I still have not got the check for the car. I called the loss agent on Tuesday the 25th after getting home and checking the mail and not finding a check. She still has not called back. I got a letter from her dated the 23rd which was a Sunday so I doubt very seriously that she was in the office on a Sunday. The postmark shows the 25th so she had been sitting on this for almost a week! I have now sent an email to the company comment/complaint email address, this was done this morning. I should not be shocked by this but I have not heard anything from the corporate office either. If this is the kind of customer service they display from not only the local office but from corporate as well I truly feel sorry for their paying customers!
Just had an accident and the other driver was at fault and cited for "failure to yield" by the state police. Travelers told us to contact the other driver's insurance agent to find out about getting a rental since our vehicle was totaled. So far, four days later, no action has been taken by the other driver's insurance company or by Travelers to provide us with a rental, even though the other driver was cited for the accident.
I'd say Travelers has let us down and I was planning on changing over to them, but this experience has changed my mind. I will avoid Travelers in the future.
I was in an accident. The accident was the fault of the other driver, he was coming from the opposite direction and cut across a double yellow line into a my lane to get into a gas station on my side...claim said 80%. I wasn't happy. So it was sent for adjudication for $200(dates moved twice) --didn't make much sense. I was ready to fight for this myself. I went to the accident location and drew the layout. I took at least 6 google map screen shots and explained everything in detail - the file/ documentation I sent to the company processing my claim was an inch thick! Accident was end of May, claim settled mid Nov...got my check the week after. I think my efforts may have helped...or else why wasn't this settled in the first round? They may have thought I would be OK paying 20%? Not sure...anyway my dealings with all reps were good. My rates haven't gone up-- best rates I got compared to Geico, All State etc. Btw, my car was new (just 1000 miles) when the accident happened so you can imagine my mental state! My car was repaired within 4 days. They covered my rental car -- i ended up paying $35 (don't remem why ..its been more than a yr) -- I'm staying with Traveler's until I find someone better in NJ (which I doubt will ever happen) - after seeing ads about best rates in NJ I called a few companies ---no one could give me anything close to what Traveler's gives me....
I've never been so impressed with an insurance company. I had an accident and this was the insurance used by the woman that hit my car. The insurance company took care of everything from speedy money to fix the car to offering a rental car. I got much better service from them than that of my own insurance company!!
I've recently switched to Traveler's,a and so far am relatively happy. I like that I can bundle several different policies. My rates are also pretty low, despite a less than perfect history. My only complaint is that the customer service leaves a lot to be desired.
I use Travelers for car insurance because they cover my home insurance. So, combined I get a little bit of a discount.
I've found the rates to be very competitive in NJ and have never had a problem getting in touch with their customer service department.
You can pay your policy online, over the phone or via mail.
One of the other nice bonuses is that I was able to pay my policy using my credit card...which is something that I was unable to do with my former insurance provider.
I would highly recommend Travelers for both home insurance and car insurance.
I'm sorry to say I'm not a very good driver. Unfortunately, I only discovered this after having a couple of bang-ups. I had The Travelers for household contents insurance as a renter, so when I moved out to the 'burbs and got a car I kept them and added auto insurance into the mix. I'm glad I did. Obviously my rates went up because of the major repairs I had to have done, but Travelers had somebody on the case both times and got me a check in practically no time. If only they could drive for me, maybe I'd do better on the roads...
My car insurance rates were far better than any other provider that I could find. At one point I had three cars on a policy and it was less than $100/month. That being said I onlyl had full coverage one of the cars and the other two were older car VWs. My experiences with their customer service were also very good.
