Good basic account. No interest and, you have to pay for personal checks but the account is a lot less restrictive than other banks so called free accounts. No minimum balance requirement, so long as you're not overdrawn, and no direct deposit requirement. Great East Coast presence and allows you access to the largest network of ATM's in the US now that they're part of Wells Fargo. Free Debit card with rewards, free Way2Save account and Free Online Banking with BillPay.

On the whole this is an ok account. The charges get a bit over the top though. You get charged ~ $5 per month to download transaction using software such as Quicken. Further, they will charge unaval funds fees ($35 per instance) like crazy!! I very seldom get close to the edge, but I have had them charge me for items that hadn’t yet cleared. On this occasion, they never even showed my account as being overdrawn, just charged me $70 worth of fees. However, for ease of use (ignoring the charges) and customer service, I have no complaints.

I have been with Wachovia for about 5 years. Their fees are reasonable and they have a lot of locations. They always provide good service whenever I have needed them. This is a good account to have if you don't write a lot of checks.

I really liked my Wachovia Free checking account until I realized how many extra fees there are. They would deduct money from my account without even letting me know then they would take forever to correct any problems. I had over 300 dollars taken out of my account by accident because a teller didn't do a transaction correctly. I got a letter maybe 3 months later apologizing for the mix up and they let me go one month without the monthly charge. Wow like $5 is really going to make up for the 6 bills that came back messed up because of the mix up.

Wachovia is the only bank that I have ever used for checking. I have been with them for about 7 years now and have never had any problems. I really like the free checking's online bill pay feature. The online format is very easy to read and I have never come across any fees that I was not expecting. Any time that I have had a question or needed assistance, the Wachovia Customer Service team was ready to give me hand. I have had a very good experience with my Wachovia Free Checking and will consider other products in the future such as a mortgage!

I've used Wachovia free checking for about 5 years now. They bought out the bank I was at originally and I've loved their service for the most part. I don't have to worry about hidden fees with this account. One small problems is that they try to charge me $5 for a money order, but they always say they will charge me the next time I get one and never do. Other than that, it's a great bank!

I used the free checking from Wachovia and it was terrible. They didn't tell me that it sometimes took 48 hrs for a deposit to show up. If I called with a questions I was given another number to call and then no one could answer any of my questions. I think Wachovia is awful. The online services they have were not good> I couldn't ever get it to work correctly.

I signed up for this account online, made my initial deposit and received my card no problem. It wasn't any longer than 2 weeks before i was hit with my first overdraft charge. I only use my debit card because that way it (is supposed to) keeps a running balance. I called to check my balance and bought something, which they told me I could afford. Come to find out not everything posts right away, which hasn't been my experience with my other card.
I called customer service and they agreed to reverse one of the overdraft fees I got. I decided that was fair because I could have done a better job of keeping track of how much I had, I was just being lazy.
I linked this account to my Paypal, which was hacked. Paypal detected this, called me reversed all charges and pending drafts and took care of me. I called Wachovia and informed them. They told me no problem and they would remove the overdraft fees and replace the funds. They never did, I called and called and was given the runaround, told that I hadn't reported it fast enough, told that I was responsible, and basically ended up with the account closed in overdraft status.
I actually am filing a complaint with the SEC, or the equivalent, which handles national banks.
Don't use the company at any time, it just isn't worth it!

Wachovia checking is great for anyone who is looking for a wide variety of services in their checking account. Everything you could ask for, from checking card rewards, to cell-phone access, to bill pay; Wachovia offers it all. If you have other accounts with Wachovia, you can easily link them. Online banking is comprehensive ande efficient (not to mention very safe!).
