A standard checking account, they'll waive the $5 monthly fee if you maintain a daily balance of $1,000 or opt for direct deposit. A minimum opening balance of $100 is required and customers have access to Wells Fargo Online Bill Pay and can receive a 0.25% APR discount on select loans if you pay them down automatically from your checking account.
Not the best bank to be in. I've had this bank for about ten years now since I first entered my senior year of high school. There are many perks to this bank at all except there are a lot of their ATM's where I live. The total downside is calls to their 1800 numbers will costs you ten dollars which is absolutely ridiculous. I would go with Schwab Banking.
This is a great basic, no-frills checking account. There are no minimum balance penalty fees, and you can freely transfer between your accounts. I have my account tied to my WellsTrade account as well. Overall, it's a convenient, easy to use account.
I have a free basic checking account with Wells Fargo and it has been really easy to use. I love it because there is no fee. I also like the fact that I can access it online and make transfers between my other accounts. It is also nice that I got a debit card with it that I can use anywhere. I would recommend this for anyone needing just a basic checking account.
I have had a Wells Fargo checking account for over 10 years now. It was my first checking account ever that I got when I was 16. I now have 3 Wells Fargo Checking accounts, 2 savings accounts, a loan, and a credit card. In general the checking accounts have served me well. I haven't had to pay any monthly fees, but my husband has frequently overdrawn his account, and the fees for that can be astronomical. Also if you do not have over draft protection, they will charge you an over draft fee for every single transaction over the limit of your account-- like $25 for each one. So spend wisely! I do like the online banking feature as well, and it simplifies my bill paying every month.
Wells Fargo is only mediocre when it comes to service. If they can charge an extra fee it seems that they will. However, I have asked them to reverse several fees from my checking account and they have almost always agreed to do so. I think there are better banks, but in some areas Wells Fargo may be convenient because they have so many branch offices. I had better service at Washington Mutual.
I had the WellsFargo account for about 3 years and was not happy. I had one overdrafted check that was run through the account 17 times. This is completely unacceptable. I had already paid the company, but they could not get the check back to give me. Then Wells Fargo put all those fees on my credit report.
I have had the Wells Fargo Checking account for a couple of years and I am very pleased with their service. The account requires a minimum balance of a 100$ to start, which is great for college students and/or teenagers starting up their first bank account. I had it linked with my parents so they could monitor my activities for a few years and now have switched over to have complete oversight over the account. Although I have heard lots of people complaining about Wells Fargo, they have provided the best service and are always helpful when I go into the bank. Also, they are the only ones that are actually doing GOOD in this economic crisis. One of the good things I like about Wells Fargo is that if you accidentally overdraft your account, you can quickly go home and transfer money online so you do not have to pay a fee. Also, if you go in the bank, the employees give you discounts or offer free services that are paid online (checks, etc). I would highly recommend this no-nonsense, no drama bank.
I have had a Wells Fargo checking account for 3 years now. I am very impressed with the service. I have never had a problem with this bank and everything has worked perfectly thus far. I've only had problems with applying for credit cards with them, but the checking has been perfect.
I had a good and bad experience with Wells Fargo. I opened a free checking account with them and all of a sudden, they started charging my checking account! I went to my local branch and they said that I had signed up for a non-free checking account. Apparently, the branch where I had signed up for the free college student checking account had messed up and now the bank was charging me. Wells Fargo didn't believe me. I got so angry that I immediately closed my account and they never paid me back a penny of what I was owed from their mistake. Make sure you keep all your documents in a good place for proof in case this happens to you.
I've had a pretty good experience with Wells Fargo Checking. I had my account with them for about two years. When I accidentally overdrew my account, the representatives on the phone were very very helpful. They waived my fees because it was my first time doing it and gave me helpful advice. Just a warning, they do have enourmous overdraft charges that will hit you hard, so be careful. But, other than that.. it's a wonderful company!
