In reallity, it all depends on the structure of the area that is being served as well as the structure of the population and firms.

Not that I am planning a heist, but I am curious as to how much cash an average bank has on hand.

To answer this question in an acurate manner, you have to determine what type of bank is questioned and who uses the bank in question.

Banks are used for different financial pratices as witnessed with the falling of Chase Morgan, WaMu, and other mortgage broker based banks as the housing market hit bottom due to a confusion in foreclosure polices and practices.

As the average stands at 421.5K as of june 16th I'm thinking that this average is approaching the direction of Credit Unions. They offer a broader srectrum of banking services and their are usually only open to a specific type of custom or member in most cases.

Such as Mid Florida Credit Union via Lake Wales, Fl.

It started as a teachers union banker and then added the potentials of students as well and now they have been sponsoring student car loan drives aimed at the attention of high-school/college students and their parents.

Just an idea of what bank is the types and how they operate to generate money.

Paul,

You said that you're "curious as to how much cash an average bank has on hand." This poll won't tell you much except for what "we think" the average bank has on hand, not an accurate number by anyone's stretch of the imagination. It depends on the amount of deposits the institiution has and the amount of reserves it is required to keep on hand.
