What is the "normal" spend for a children's birthday? Just got over my daughter's 3rd birthday and now doing the final tally. I think it was a great party, but is my spending in-line with norm? Personally, I would like to plan in the future and carve out a little savings account to use for it proactively, versus putting it on a credit card and paying the amount and interest re-actively. Like all things - a little planning and preparation goes a long way.
Am I crazy?

OK, I'm curious...how in the heck does one spend > $1500 (nevermind the $6-10K noted by some respondents) on a kid's birthday party???

Peter, I really like your idea about a separate account to plan for the party. It is like an old Christmas club account. If we can squirrel a few dollars away per money, then it won't hit us all at once on the birthday.

I have already started accounts for my children for some of their milestone birthdays /events and the holidays. The good thing is that online banking has made it easier to create these deductions. The hardest part is creating the accounts at the bank.
