Ron, does your employer really match 50%? Or is it 50% up to 6%?

I just used this calculator on Monday http://www.filife.com/calculator/how-do-i-maximize-my-employer-401k-match

"Many employees are not taking full advantage of their employer's matching contributions. If, for example, your contribution percentage is so high that you obtain the $15,000 limit (year 2007) in the first few months of the year then you have probably maximized your contribution but minimized your employer's matching contribution."

*** 2009 401k contribution limits are now up to $16,500 - no better time to sock as much money away as possible.

Also interesting to note what the vesting schedule is of the match. This is the final retention tool that companies have in the days of 401k. A low match and a long vesting schedule is no way to retain employees.
