estimates for good event at say Pacha
great DJ = 10k per night
Sound Tech = 1k
Light Tech = 1k
Other Effects and Props Up to 10k
For real event where I'm going to spend 6 hours or more in the space, I will easily pay $100

I never would have guessed that the cost of a DJ was so high!

You gotta be kidding! You'd pay $100 just to walk in the door of a night club? Where the hell do you live? (I'm guessing NYC). Anything over $20 where I live would have people turning around at the door and going someplace else. There are far better ways to spend $100.
I am with you guys, I hate the idea of having to pay just to get in the door. Buying a bottle at the store and drinking at home is just as good, and cheaper.

I don't know about you but I struggle with cover charges on principle. It just doesn't seem quite right that I should be charged at the door only to go into a place to buy drinks. As a result I tend to avoid places that have cover charges as my way of protesting such a silly practice. Now, if the cover charge included 2 drinks I would be a lot more understanding. What are your thoughts?

Um, yeah, if they're charging anything more than $5 to get in, there better be a pretty darn good band playing.

$2500 for a cover charge? Seriously? I don't get it. Why is the answer range so great? I wonder if this is being misinterpreted as "How much would you pay to rent out a club?"
$40 is about my upper limit (I would hope I am getting at least one free drink, too) for a club cover charge.

I think this topic needs further research. If I can find a willing sponsor I'm more than happy to carry the torch in the name of 'Night Club Cover Charge Price Discovery'!

If it's a dance club, and not a bar, especially if they have good DJs playing good trance, I don't think cover charge is an unreasonable concept. However, paying over $40 is unreasonable.

I hate the idea too Paul! Even worse, buying a multi-hundred dollar bottle of liquor to gain entry to a club. I'd rather go to a place that is happy to have my patronage regardless of how I dress or how much money I pay upfront.
