College Students Use Sex As Currency

Want something that's out of your price range? Would you barter for it... with your body?

A recent University of Michigan study showed that some college students try to use sex to get the things they want. The study interviewed 475 undergrads between the ages of 18 to 26. It found that 27 percent of the men surveyed and 14 percent of the women surveyed had attempted to trade resources for sex. Meanwhile, 5 percent of the men and 9 percent of the women said they'd offered up sex to get something in return.

What were they looking to trade? Tickets to the big University of Michigan versus Ohio State University football game, laundry washed, voice lessons, and a Louis Vuitton bag, to name a few items.

The results show that college students are attempting to use sex for things they want, but don't necessarily need. I think it's a pretty surprising report. Daniel Kruger, research scientist at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, seems to agree with me. He said that this kind of exchange is more expected in higher age groups with more unsatisfied needs.

The study found only a 25 percent success rate for such endeavors. I have to wonder how serious some of those sex offers were (it is college after all), given the small success rate. But some scientists say this kind of thinking is hardwired into our human brains.

Maybe students should try to resist this primal urge and consider a student credit card instead. Though like sex, you still have to use your card responsibly.

Wow, I can see the public school system and whatever parents raised them did these kids a lot of good. Will this bring in a new age of bartering when they graduate or is there a new age of corporate bartering hidden away from public view?

Perhaps, this bartering thing is only the tip of the iceberg. Imagine when it spreads to high fashion stores and grocery stores. Will there be special "ablution" rooms setup for such transactions just like the military? Or maybe there are already "ablution" rooms at Saks and Safeway and someone didn't tell me.

So Party one college kids, and live it up!! Only reason people are even complaining is because they are "older" and they missed thier chance! (and for all everyone know's- how many people were telling the truth..)
