The Short Story
This is the final installment in our series of rental horror stories. Read the first one here.
A roommate who eats your day-old pasta from the fridge isn’t so bad, compared to one who gobbles up your identity. What could be scarier than a roommate with a dastardly combination of ill intentions and access to your personal and financial information? Even if you’ve found a roommate through a personal referral and made best efforts to check their background, it’s wise to err on the side of caution.
What To Do?
- Always password-protect your computer and your email.
- Keep personal and financial information in a locked file drawer or security box.
- Don’t disclose personal or financial information (such as your social security number, bank account information, and credit card numbers) in phone conversations that might be overheard.
