I'm starting my second year at a liberal arts college in the fall, almost a thousand miles away from my parents. This was really nice to read, and I think captures how most parents and students feel during such a transition. To both of you, remember to be thankful for each other over the next few years as you both change. The experiences to come will unlikely match your expectations, however, this is the time of your life, Isaac, when you are likely to appreciate your family more than you ever have before. In the next several years, the lessons they have tried to teach you will be put into practice, as well as put to the test. And do not worry about taking sufficient advantage of the opportunities you are about to encounter. One of the most important lessons I learned in the past year is that it is better to do a few things well than to do many things and be only mediocre. Best wishes for the both of you!
