Hair extensions are pretty risky idea as is, but trying to pay for them with a fake $1,700 check is just flat out lame.

But that didn't stop upper-class identity thieves Edward Anderton and Jocelyn Kirsch from Philadelphia. This week the couple was busted for thieving thousands of dollars and as cops try to piece together the story, they find that most of Anderton and Kirsch's victims had no idea that anything had happened. And again we learn that Eastern Europeans and meth addicts aren't the only ID theives.

As for good neighbors, the Digerati Life points us to the Economides (ha!) — a family of seven that lives comfortably on $35,000 a year. The secret? These weird things called budgeting, planning and resourcefulness.

Maybe we don't all have our act together like the Economides, but you can get started with a handy IRS withholding tool, highlighted by Consumerist, that let's you gaze into the crystal ball of taxes and estimate what your refund will be.

If you own a pet, hope that your refund is a hefty one. Daily Brilliance discusses the real cost of having a pet and winds up with $14,283.61 as a total for owning one dog, and that's not even figuring in the oh-so-necessary puppy garb.

Surely there are worse ways to spend your cash, or get tricked into thinking that you're saving mad dollars. Wired editor Chris Anderson is pissed about the sleazetastic marketing of magazines, specifically those irksome inserts that fall out the pages of your favorite glossy like Britney and Lindsay fall out of rehab.
