Mortgages

A mortgage is a loan. What makes it a “mortgage” is that the collateral (what you hand over to lenders if you can’t pay them back) is your home. Most often you get a mortgage in order to buy a new place. There are many kinds of mortgages out there, but most require you to put some cash of your own (known as the “down payment”) into the deal, and the mortgage covers the rest.
