Real estate brokerages serve as the middle-man between folks looking to buy and sell property. Real estate brokers work in slightly different ways across the country, but always make their money by collecting a commission, which is paid out from the proceeds of a sale (a real estate agent usually has to split their commission with the brokerage they work for). All commissions are negotiable.
