On Nov 20, 2008 Dave Hanson reviewed Visa 5% Gas Reward from Pentagon Federal Credit Union

This is a superb cash-back Visa card.

It pays 5% back for gas bought at-the-pump, 2% for groceries, and 1.25% for everything else. There are no rewards caps, and the cash is simply posted to your account balance every month, automatically. So there is no need to reach certain rewards tiers or request a rewards check.

They also offer great promotions from time to time (such as the summer 2008 2.99% for life balance transfer offer).

Customer service is exceptional, and policies are customer friendly. They even offer a grace period after the payment due date before charging late fees!

In short, the combination of great cash back, no hassles, and good service make this card a wonderful choice.

On Aug 5, 2008 Dave Hanson reviewed GLOBAL FEDERAL CREDIT UNION

All and all, an excellent credit union. All WA state residents are elligible, as are some ID residents and all retired and active duty military.

I've put this review under Global's main branch on 3d Avenue.

The checking account you want at this excellent regional credit union is their new eVelocity product. It's a Rewards Checking account still paying 6% on the first $30,000 in deposits when do use e-statements, do 12 debit purchases, and direct deposit or debit $100 or more during a month.

Customer service is strong, and they have a very attractive overdraft protection feature on their checking accounts. Among other options, this feature lets you protect your account with a Global CU credit card which has no cash advance fee and a reasonable interest rate.

Also, if you have small business checking accounts (also free), you can link those so that money can be transferred instantly and easily from business to personal.

All in all, a first-rate product, well deserving of my highest recommendation.

On Jul 21, 2008 Dave Hanson reviewed Online Payment from PayPal

Francisco makes some sound points about paypal.

Since ebay now owns paypal, ebay pushes this payment method hard on their site, and its all but impossible to sucessfully ebay without accepting and using paypal.

On the question of competition, I'd encourage readers to explore google checkout. Currently, their seller's fees for payments made by a credit card (2% plust 20 cents per transaction) are much lower than paypal's, and I have found google's customer service to be somewhat more responsive.
