Working at FiLife has really shown me how little I know about personal finance. My personal finance strategy, if you could even call it that, was to just avoid debt. In the past 6 months I have discovered that not only was this an overly simplified approach, it is one that will often leave opportunity and money on the table.
Personal finance is tough for a multitude of reasons and it doesn't help that money is a taboo subject matter within many social groups. So as a result, where do you learn about personal finance when you can't talk about it openly with your friends and family? We are here to change this! I encourage you to learn with us as we explore personal finance products and companies with the goal of figuring out which are best.

Ouch - according to citibank.com this account only pays .8% when you have up to $24,999 in the account. I don't know about you, but that is a lot money to have not making a return for you.

I went to Honda with a preapproved loan offer from Cap One and so after coming to a sales price with the sales guy we had the financing dicussion. I didn't tell the sale guy what my Cap One offer was and told him to go get me the best rate and I will let him know if I will accept it. He came back with a rate of 1.9% which was 2.5% better than Cap One.

On Aug 12, 2008 Paul reviewed Car Insurance from Progressive
A few years back I was hit by someone that used Progressive. I was very impressed with how quickly they got in touch with me and got my car fixed. The accident occured on a saturday afternoon and by that tuesday I had a rental car and my car was in the shop getting fixed. In addition they selected one of the best body shops in town, so my car actually ended up looking better than it did before.… When a company gives this kind of service and you're not the one paying them, I can only imagine that it is this good when you are a customer.
